About Trauma Healing

What is Bible-based Trauma Healing?

American Bible Society's Bible-based Trauma Healing program helps people explore their heart wounds and heal from the pain of trauma. This effective ministry approach uses the book, “Healing the Wounds of Trauma: How the Church Can Help,” and is facilitated by trained facilitators in a small group setting. In these Healing Groups, participants engage with one another and God, using material that blends proven mental health best practices with God’s Word.

What is the Trauma Healing Institute?

American Bible Society, in partnership with the Trauma Healing Alliance, took on the role of stewarding the Trauma Healing method and materials in 2010. By forming the Trauma Healing Institute, American Bible Society and its partners are able to ensure that the program model, method, and resources remain relevant and accessible. Through the Trauma Healing Institute, American Bible Society supports organizations, churches, and individuals with the tools and resources they need to help people heal in their own communities.

How does the Trauma Healing program work?

The Trauma Healing program brings a group of people together in a safe place, where they can help each other heal. As they meet together, people in a Healing Group learn how to talk about their own pain and listen to the pain of others. Each Healing Group is led by a trained facilitator using material that the Trauma Healing Institute provides.

In Healing Groups, people discover that they are not alone. With the strength and support of others, they experience God’s nearness and love.
